EHV Baltan is based on the lettering on a “plaque” on the original Natlab Building in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, which pays tribute to its establishment in 1914. Its unique letterforms are the result of cutting corners during the design process. Not figuratively – great care was given to producing this two-style typeface – but quite literally. Completely devoid of curves, the striking design hacks and slashes into the page or screen with dynamic, angular movements. Add contrast between thick and thin strokes to this oblique rhythm, and you get a unique typographic texture guaranteed to draw attention. Automated alternate characters prevent the formation of empty areas between neighbouring letters. EHV Baltan was named after Dutch composer, theatre maker and theorist “Dick Raaijmakers” (°1930 – †2013), also known as Kid Baltan. EHV Baltan comes in two styles and supports Latin Extended.
